Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer is taking some family time, and it's for the best reason ever. He'll miss the remainder of a series against the Miami Marlins and the first part of a series with the Royals because he and his wife, Erica, are expecting their second daughter on July 4.

Being placed on the paternity leave list allows Scherzer to take three days off. The timing aligns perfectly for the ace, as he won't miss a start after throwing eight innings against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

Although he won't be with the team for either Wednesday or Thursday's matchups with Marlins, as well as Friday's tilt with the Kansas City Royals, Scherzer will be back on the mound as soon as Saturday.

Scherzer is coming off an absolutely monstrous month of June, knowing all along that his second daughter would be delivered just days after the month's conclusion.

After that incredible stretch, a few days off are exactly what Max Scherzer deserves. Since he will be heading to Cleveland next week for the MLB All-Star Game, those three days will be crutial for him to spend time with his family.

With a new baby on the way and a hot streak entering the month of July, expect Max Scherzer to be throwing heat once again after he returns from paternity leave.
