Pittsburgh has been surging of late, a streak which coincides with their acquisition of Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild, which has provided a jolt to the Penguins' already-dangerous goal-scoring ability. The Pens are just one point behind Washington for the Metropolitan Division lead with two games in hand.
Toronto, meanwhile, is the victim of complacency, while the teams ahead of them in the Atlantic -- Boston and Tampa Bay -- have surged into a commanding lead for the top two spots in that division. Toronto sits in third place in the Atlantic by an eye-opening 15 points.

As always, the Leafs command the star power needed to make a Cup run, but lack the discipline. Firing Mike Babcock midseason was curious move, and it remains to be seen if such meddling will pay off long-term for Toronto.
A win in Pittsburgh would be a building block, nonetheless.
