Keston Hiura Has Been Nothing Short of Elite Since Returning to Brewers

Everybody needs a hero from time to time.

Heroes can take many shapes and forms, but for the Milwaukee Brewers, Hiura was their hero.

Keston Hiura, that is.

Hiura has been a sort of saving grace for the Brewers since he was called back up to the majors on June 28. Since his call-up the second baseman leads all National League rookies in average (.340), on-base (.421), OPS (1.063) and extra-base hits (18).

While the NL Rookie of the Year award is currently New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso's to lose, Hiura is making sure that he will not be forgotten about.

The former Brewers top prospect struggled a bit in his first cup of coffee with Milwaukee, but his production of late is helping keep his team's playoff hopes alive.

The Brewers are 2.5 games behind the Cardinals for first in the NL Central and are only a game and a half out of a wild card spot.

Milwaukee will hope Hiura's production can lead them into the playoffs similar to what Christian Yelich was able to do in the second-half of 2018. Hiura has already shown that he possesses a clutch gene with his walk-off homer against Craig Kimbrel and the Cubs on July 27.

With the trade of Jesus Aguilar to the Rays on Wednesday, Hiura seems to have more of an opportunity for consistent at-bats at second base. With Aguilar gone, there is less of a need for someone like Mike Moustakas to play second.
