Every Time the Chiefs Have Choked in the Playoffs
By Jerry Trotta

If there are any Kansas City Chiefs fans out there wary of the fact that their team is set to appear in another conference championship game, well, you should be.
The organization's shortcomings in the postseason, particularly as favorites, is startling. Look no further than last year's collapse against the Patriots at Arrowhead.
With that in mind, and KC's bout against the underdog Titans just days away, let's highlight each time the Chiefs choked in the playoffs.
2018 AFC Championship vs Patriots
It's burdensome to tab a loss to Tom Brady and New England in the postseason as a choke job, but the Chiefs were favored by three points in this one, and they lost by six, 37-31.
Of course, Patrick Mahomes never got the ball in overtime, but that excuse is moot. Beat the Pats in regulation, and you wouldn't have to worry about your generational QB being handicapped by NFL rules.

2017 Wild Card Round vs Titans
KC's 2017 campaign ended woefully prematurely with a 22-21 loss at home to Tennessee, a game in which they entered as 8.5-point favorites. The Chiefs jumped out to a 21-3 lead at halftime, but crumbled in the second half, conceding 19 unanswered points.
Is history going to rear its ugly head for the Arrowhead faithful on Sunday?

2016 Divisional Round vs Steelers
If you're keeping track, this L means that the Chiefs have lost three consecutive home playoff games...as favorites.
The Steelers waltzed into Arrowhead as 2.5-point dogs and exited as 18-16 victors.

2014 Wild Card Round vs Colts
Let's throw spreads out of the window for a second to address perhaps the most stunning collapse in playoff history. KC held a whopping 38-10 lead at halftime, but were out-classed in the second half by Andrew Luck and Co.
Somehow, the Colts erased a 28-point second-half deficit and pulled out a thrilling, yet unfathomable 45-44 dub to advance to the Divisional Round.
These two cities have been on the wrong end of the two greatest comebacks in playoff history.

1997 AFC Championship vs Broncos
The Chiefs proved throughout the 1997 regular season that they were the class of the AFC. They even beat out Denver for the AFC West Crown and earned the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.
However, KC's Super Bowl aspirations were crushed by those same Broncos in the conference championship in a 14-10 loss. The ending was gutting for Chiefs fans.

1995 Divisional Round vs Colts
It's only fitting that Kansas City was on the losing end of a game that featured one of the worst losses by favorite in NFL playoff history. The Chiefs entered as 10.5-point favorites against the Colts and faltered to the tune of a 10-7 embarrassment.
1970 Divisional Round vs Dolphins
Not only were the Chiefs three-point favorites at home against Miami, but they also managed to choke away a touchdown lead entering the fourth quarter.
The game ended up taking two overtimes to determine a winner -- the Dolphins emerged victorious 27-24. It still stands as the longest game in NFL history at 82 minutes and 40 seconds.
Talk about a heartbreaker. It's confirmed: Chiefs fans have every right to be terrified for Sunday.
1967 Divisional Round vs Raiders
How many teams can say that they were 3.5-point underdogs heading into a playoff clash and ended up winning by 35? The 1967 Raiders, that's who.
Oakland utterly romped KC 41-6 in the Chiefs second-ever playoff game since relocating from Dallas.
