JD Martinez Admits Mike Fiers Warned Him About Astros Before 2018 ALCS
By Michael Luciano

The Houston Astros were using illicit means to gain an unfair advantage via sign stealing for the last several years, which included two runs to the World Series. If not for whistleblower Mike Fiers, this would have remained a secret exclusive to the MLB community.
Boston Red Sox slugger JD Martinez has known about this scandal for years now, as he claims that Fiers, who was on the Astros in 2017, tipped Martinez off to how the Astros cheated before Boston took on Houston in the 2018 ALCS.

"The only way I ever found out [about sign stealing] was in the playoffs was when Fiers, who is a really good friend of mine, reached out to me," Martinez said. "I was like, ‘What? How is this a thing?'"
Martinez hit .278 with one home run and three RBIs during Boston's triumph over the Astros in 2018.

There was nothing of substance in Mike Fiers’ comments to @TheAthletic that MLB wasn’t already aware of.
The only reason his comments are even significant is the complete and utter failure of the Commissioner to do his job prior to those comments. https://t.co/1ZN4I6RWi1
What Fiers unearthed seemed to be common knowledge among most in the know around baseball, as Martinez is not the only player who had more than inkling that the Astros were up to some nefarious stuff. Even with all that's transpired, we still likely don't have the full story.
