Ian Happ's Slash Line With the Cubs This Year is Mind-Boggling

As analytics become more and more the focus of baseball, batting average continues to grow less important to analytical minds. Ian Happ should be happy to hear that because his slash line is one of the weirdest stats around.

Happ's slash is interesting, to say the least.

Happ's first hit Tuesday night helped increase his line to .125/.417/.125 on the season. The intriguing part is four walks in 11 total plate appearances prior to Tuesday's game, skewing his OBP compared to his average.

It's only a matter of time before Happ's numbers return to a more normal line, as Happ's career with the Cubs has been relatively successful. Happ is a career .240 hitter with a .342 OBP in three seasons with Chicago. The slash line of .240/.342/.455 more accurately represents what he brings to the team, but this odd slash line is funny nonetheless.

The Cubs could use Happ's production, as they are slowly losing the division to the Cardinals. After sprinting out of the gates after the break, Chicago's performance slowed, resulting in a tie atop the NL Central with St. Louis. Now, an important three-game series with the Cards looms as the division is up for grabs.

While it's unlikely his line stays like this for long, we can only hope Happ's slash stays as obscure as ever for the rest of the season.
