The Miami Heat are not messing around in 2020.

The team has already traded for Andre Iguodala, and Danilo Gallinari could reportedly be on his way from Oklahoma City to Miami soon. This recalls last season, when the Toronto Raptors added an aging but effective star in the Grizzlies' Marc Gasol at the trade deadline, marking the second year in which Memphis could have a huge impact on the Eastern Conference -- and at the Milwaukee Bucks' expense, no doubt.

The Bucks have to be worried if the Heat can thread the needle and knock these deals out of the park.. The Gasol-to-Toronto deal added a top contributor to a Raptors team that already looked dangerous, but now, the Heat are in striking distance of adding two veteran contributors with playoff and championship experience.

Miami entered Wednesday night fourth in the East standings, but just 1.5 games out of second. These new additions will go a long way in potentially separating the team from the pack.

It's a scary proposition for the rest of the league, and the kind of thing that ought to earn Andy Elisburg automatic Executive of the Year Honors if he can possibly pull it off.

Gasol joined a team led by Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry. Iggy, and potentially Gallinari, would a team led by Jimmy Butler, but that also sports a young core of players learning to punch above its weight.

This is a monumental trade deadline moment for a Miami team that already stands out as a top threat to the Bucks. The plan of acquiring a top player from the Grizzlies worked out for the Raptors in 2019l; the Heat are looking to copy that plan and then some. And it could be the worst kind of deja vu for Milwaukee in the end.
