Packers Buying Low on WR Devin Funchess Could Pay Major Dividends for Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has about as sure a thing as there is in a No 1 wide receiver thanks to ready, steady Davante Adams, but when was the last time he had a gigantic matchup problem to throw to and keep opponents on notice?

With that in mind, Packer fans ought to celebrate the team's latest news. Green Bay is reportedly signing wide receiver Devin Funchess, who spent 2019 with the Indianapolis Colts.

Last season was admittedly a lost one for Funchess, as injuries limited him to just a single game and three catches. Fortunately, he's still just 25 years old, and averaged 558 yards and 5.25 touchdowns in the four preceding years with the Carolina Panthers.

And not for nothing, he's a sturdy 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. If he's healthy and ready to go, Funch is going to be a big problem -- literally -- for NFC North secondaries.

That ought to make Packer fans, who have had to watch a litany of injuries drag down their offense in recent seasons, stand up and cheer.

The burden is on Funchess to prove that he can bounce back to his 2017 form, when he hauled in 63 balls for 840 yards and eight touchdowns, all career highs. But if such a thing is possible, Aaron Rodgers can go a long way to helping to make it happen.
