Gio Urshela Literally Forgot His Jersey and He's Wearing a Random Number During Friday's Game
By Michael Luciano

After Dellin Betances left for the New York Mets in free agency, his No. 68 jersey was left vacant on the 2020 New York Yankees squad.
The only player who will sport Betances' old number since he left will be third baseman Gio Urshela. While Urshela normally wears No. 29, he forgot to pack his jersey as the Yankees went on the road for a Spring Training game on Friday, so he will be wearing No. 68 for the team's game against the Braves.
Gio Urshela will be wearing No.68 today, because he forgot to pack his jersey. #SpringTrainingisfun. #Yankees

No matter what jersey number he wears, Urshela will look to continue an impressive spring. After hitting .314 with 21 home runs last season, he was quick to remind us all he's still an elite defensive third baseman, as evidenced by this highlight.

The 28-year-old must be used to wearing all sorts of odd numbers considering he bounced around the league in previous years as a non-roster invite trying to make the major league roster. The fact that he's going into the season as an unquestioned starter is new territory for him.
