The New York Yankees finally unveiled the 2019 MLB offseason's big fish, as former Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros starting pitcher Gerrit Cole will don the Yankee pinstripes for the first time. In order to conform to the Yankees' long-standing tradition of no facial hair, Cole shaved off his beard, which he had going back to his days in Pittsburgh.

The new-look Cole looks a bit strange without his trademark scruffy facial hair.

Cole signed a nine-year contract worth $324 million, an average of $36 million per season. He has an opt-out in his contract after the 2024 season. In order to make room for him, former top prospect Chance Adams was designated for assignment.

Cole's arrival in the bronx signals a major transformation in the Yankees rotation, as the second-place finisher in the 2019 AL Cy Young race will make that rotation one of the best in baseball.

It might take some getting used to, but Cole's Yankee-enforced clean-shaven look is here to stay for at least the next five seasons.
