As much as the NCAA doesn't care to admit it, there is a lot of money tied up in the "amateur" sport of college football. Simply put, the most successful and valuable programs are also the ones that are able to maintain an expensive lifestyle. With new facilities and equipment being purchased seemingly everyday, there is immense pressure on these programs to keep up.

One of these programs is the Georgia Bulldogs, who have been an ever-present force in the SEC over the last decade. Recently, the Bulldogs had their financial figures from the 2019 fiscal year released, and some of the findings show how expensive it truly is to be a national football powerhouse.

Almost $4 million on recruiting expenses alone? The NCAA has the audacity to claim its desire to keep monetary motivations out of college sports, yet allows its member colleges to spend exuberant amounts on things like recruiting athletes? It's no surprise that Georgia was able to secure the signatures of 25 top-ranked high school athletes, as they had the resources to do so.

Spending $4 million to garner the No. 1 recruiting class certainly signals how much Georgia wants to be in future conversations for the national title. It's just hypocritical how teams inside the "nonprofit" NCAA need huge amounts of funding to set their programs up for success.
