The Ohio State Buckeyes received the top spot in the first week of the College Football Playoff rankings, but the bigger piece of news was star defensive end Chase Young sitting out in fear of an NCAA suspension for taking a loan from a family friend. During their game against Maryland, FOX announcers Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt wondered if the reason the Buckeyes were so aggressive and even running up the score in the first half was because it was Maryland who tipped off the NCAA. Young is from the DC metro area.

They have no evidence that the Terrapins did this, but the Buckeyes were pounding Maryland in the first half. I mean, they executed an onside kick early in the game, and while they were up 42-0 towards the end of the half, they were calling timeouts so they could get the ball back.

While it seemed personal for Day and Co., the Buckeyes coach denied they were running up the score after the beatdown in his postgame presser.

If this is how Ohio State performs when they don't have an ax to grind, I'd hate to see them angry.
