Michigan's Brandon Peters announced Tuesday he is transferring from the program to the University of Illinois for his final two years of eligibility.

Peters broke the news Tuesday night in a heartfelt Instagram post thanking the University of Michigan. The former Michigan QB will attend grad school and be eligible to play immediately for head coach Lovie Smith and the Fighting Illini.

In eight total games in his two seasons with the Wolverines, Peters threw for 680 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, while completing only 52.7% of his passes. Even worse, Peters was fourth on the team with only two pass attempts last season. Peters was buried on the depth chart under Jim Harbaugh and is hoping to find more opportunities at a new Big Ten school.

This season, the former top-100 prospect will compete for playing time at an Illinois program hoping to breakout in its fourth season under Smith. To this point, Smith has compiled a disappointing 9-27 in his three seasons at the helm.

With a few big name recruits and transfers this season, the pressure will be on for Smith to turn the hype from his hiring in 2016 into tangible results.
