The words ring out every Saturday at Florida Field.

Two bits,
Four bits,
Six bits,
A dollar.
All for the Gators,
Stand up and holler!

The "Two Bits" chant is utterly and inextricably a part of Florida Gators lore, and will forever be linked to one man: George Edmondson, the longtime superfan who led it from midfield, always decked out in his yellow shirt and orange and blue tie.

Sadly, the University of Florida family learned some sad news today. Edmondson passed away Wednesday evening at the age of 97.

"Mr. Two Bits" retired from his duties in 2008, with a series of celebrity guests taking his place in the decade since. He claims he came up with the chant on the spot after showing up in Gainesville in the late 1940s-- little did he know that those iconic words, as well as he himself, would become a permanent part of Gator lore.

You can bet that this season will be spent paying proper tribute to George Edmondson, the most iconic, enduring UF superfan there has ever been.

College football will never be the same without Mr. Two Bits. One day, perhaps a statue will be built in his honor outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. It's hard to imagine a more deserving figure in the history of the proud, proud Florida program.
