The boxing world awoke this morning to the kind of awful news that makes you hold your breath and wish you had merely had a bad dream. Errol Spence Jr., one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, has been hospitalized in Dallas after a serious automobile accident that occurred around 3 a.m. local time.
Reports indicate that Spence's Ferrari rolled over multiple times, and that he was ejected from the vehicle.
Dallas Police have not confirmed a cause for the accident as of this writing. In the meantime, Spence is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Per CBS 11 News, the 29-year-old WBC and IBF welterweight champion is expected to survive his injuries.
Spence is not even two weeks removed from a his thrilling title unification bout against Shawn Porter. In what many analysts immediately called the fight of the year, the Desoto, Texas native weathered Porter's best effort, scoring a late knockdown and earning the win by split decision.
