Eagles Trading for 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin Means Alshon Jeffery Will Be Dealt Any Minute Now

The Philadelphia Eagles have been trying to acquire 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin for some time, and the San Francisco finally caved and traded him away.

Goodwin fell down the depth chart in 2019, and Kyle Shanahan opted to ship Goodwin to Philly on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft.

This deal does help the Eagles continue to add speed at the wide receiver position, as they used their first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft on TCU burner Jalen Reagor to pair with DeSean Jackson.

And they just drafted another wide receiver!

Goodwin is a former Olympian who remains one of the fastest players in the league, but production has really fallen off over the last three years -- he went from almost piling up 1,000 yards in 2017 to just 186 yards on 12 catches last season.

Maybe a change of scenery will help the former Longhorn deep threat rediscover his old form.

But do you know what else this means? Alshon Jeffery is almost 100% expected to be traded. Unless the Eagles are trying to give themselves enough wide receiver depth to avoid a catastrophic situation at the position like they endured this past season, then Jeffery will likely have a new home, and it could happen before the end of the draft. Given his injury issues and alleged locker room distractions coupled with the presence of all these receivers, there doesn't seem to be a place for him in Phily.

Carson Wentz (and Jalen Hurts) need weapons after a rough end to the 2019 season, and Goodwin is another quick receiver that can help take the top off of the defense.
