Eagles Finalize Trade and Monster Extension for Star CB Darius Slay

Disgruntled cornerback Darius Slay has finally been granted a move out of the Motor City, after weeks of cryptic tweets in which he was not shy about his desire to be traded.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the Detroit Lions agreed to trade Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for both a third and fifth-round pick in 2020.

The Eagles really intensified their pursuit of Slay in the last 24 hours, so a deal truly seemed inevitable. The only kink that Philadelphia needed to work out was inking the three-time Pro Bowler to a contract extension.
Well, general manager Howie Roseman has managed to do just that. Per Schefter, Slay will sign a three-year, $50 million contract extension that includes $30 million in guaranteed money.

The Eagles had a quiet offseason up until they pulled the trigger on the Slay deal, which could be considered a steal considering they gave up the virtually the same haul as the Giants did in the Leonard Williams trade. After missing out on the likes of Byron Jones and Chris Harris, there's no doubting that Philly poached one of the best remaining CBs available in the offseason.
Slay will slot in as a starter on Doug Pederson's defense the moment he touches down in the City of Brotherly Love and will provide the Eagles defensive unit with some much-needed secondary help.
