Eagles Signing Corey Clement Should Eliminate All Talk of LeSean McCoy Reunion

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles re-signed running back Corey Clement. The 25-year-old back agreed to a one-year deal after spending the last three seasons as a backup and situational player in Philly. The deal is good news for Clement but a bad sign for anyone placing bets on LeSean McCoy making a grand return to the Eagles.

Miles Sanders is pretty much solidified as the starting running back, but some thought Shady could come back in some capacity to pick up some slack. With Clement confirmed as the backup, signing McCoy would be redundant.

Despite rumors and social media posts, Clement fills the kind of role McCoy would've employed. Being 31 years old and a little banged up, McCoy would have to accept a massively diminished role from his time in Philadelphia six years ago. His 465-yard season with Kansas City laid the foundation for his new job in the NFL, and it's precisely what Clement has been doing for the past three years.

Fans love Shady, but Clement, who took the snap on the infamous Philly Special, is younger and basically the same kind of player. He's the same height and weighs only ten pounds more. McCoy would be a lesser version of Clement.

The Eagles have made enough headlines for having two quarterbacks. There's no need to further complicate matters by signing two backup running backs of the same quality.
