After a terribly inauspicious hockey season, during which Don Cherry waged war against the Carolina Hurricanes "storm surge" where the team celebrates their home victories, Cherry received criticism from many regarding his old fashioned takes.

However, a recent rumor of the proud announcer's departure from 'Hockey Night in Canada' led to Cherry going on Twitter and confirming that he will in fact be back.

Cherry has been known his whole career for two things: his colorful suits and his inability to keep his opinions to himself, no matter how controversial or incorrect they may be. These characteristics have allowed Cherry to enjoy a successful career on the 'Coach's Corner' bringing a unique blend of insight and comedy to hockey broadcasts.

In his Twitter response, Cherry claims to be hurt by reporter Steve Simmons saying that Cherry was not wanted back, but that he was told at the end of the playoffs that he would be returning.

Perhaps the second tweet contains one of the most valid points Cherry has made in a year; why didn't Simmons call him to confirm the report if they were such good friends?

There has been an odd air over Cherry the past couple of seasons, with last being the most publicly he has been criticized in his career. The infamous broadcaster will be back, and you can expect his scorching hot takes to come along with him for another ride.
