Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Kendrick Norton had his left arm amputated as a result of a calamitous July 4 car crash. The 22-year-old defensive tackle underwent six follow up surgeries during a two-week stay in the hospital.

Well, in some lighter news, Norton is set to be released from the hospital Thursday, according to his agent Malki Kawa.

Norton played football for the University of Miami and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The former All-ACC member only appeared on the Panthers' practice squad before being picked up by his home state Dolphins. He was expected to compete for a roster spot prior to the injury.

The Jacksonville, FL native will have all of his medical bills covered by a combination of the NFL and the Dolphins' insurance. Miami staff visited Norton in the hospital every day since the accident, according to his Instagram post from last week.

Norton is taking the event in stride and looking ahead by encouraging others to donate blood. While his playing days have come to an abrupt end, he's staying as positive as possible.
