Tigers Must Trade Michael Fulmer As Soon as He Boosts His Value Because He Doesn't Fit the Rebuilding Plan

The Detroit Tigers finished with the MLB's worst record, 47-114, with room to spare last season. All indications suggest that the club is poised for another campaign of eclipsing the century mark in the loss column. A full-blown rebuild is unfolding as we speak, and Detroit would be wise to unload each and every player that doesn't fit into those plans.

That needs to include right-hander Michael Fulmer just as soon as he demonstrates palpable trade value.

Fulmer has been proposed a hot commodity on the market in the past, particularly ahead of the 2017 trade deadline when his value was at its apex. Since then, however, the 27-year-old's perceived valuation has plummeted. He missed over a year of action, including the entire 2019 season, following knee and elbow surgeries.

Reports suggest that Fulmer could return to the mound shortly after MLB play resumes. If he shows that he's healthy and capable of returning to something approaching All-Star form, Detroit shouldn't hesitate to deal him to a contender.

The former Rookie of the Year is under club control for two more seasons, and that is guaranteed to appeal to potential buyers who are limited in terms of their payroll.

Fulmer has a world of potential, and the Tigers need to cash in the second he flashes it in 2020.
