Shockwaves were sent throughout the MLB Sunday night when we learned that Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz had been shot in the Dominican Republic. Progressing with each passing day, his wife has now provided the world with an update on Big Papi's health, following his arrival in Boston.

This is excellent news for the three-time World Series Champion, as it seems his fate could have been much worse. Ortiz was shot in his lower right back at approximately 8:50 p.m. local time while at the Dial Bar and Lounge in his hometown of Santo Domingo on Sunday. Per reports, the bullet exited his stomach, causing injuries to his intestines, colon, gallbladder, and liver.

Luckily for Ortiz, the entire city of Boston is rallying behind him, giving him the strength to persevere.

Big Papi has earned his way into the hearts of Boston fans over the course of a tremendous 14-year stint with the ball club. In that time, Ortiz scratched his way to nearly the top of every major offensive category in Red Sox history, ranking second in home runs (483), third in RBI (1530), third in extra-base hits (1023), and fourth in SLG (.570). He is also holds Boston's record for the most home runs in a single-season, hitting 54 long balls in 2006.
