David Ortiz Raved About Rafael Devers for 15 Minutes Last Weekend in Latest Positive Update
By Adam Weinrib

In case you thought for even one second that Big Papi wasn't firmly locked in on what's been going on with the Boston Red Sox this season, even amid extreme strife, than think again.
Per Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, David Ortiz spent about 15 minutes of their visit together last weekend going on about exactly how valuable Rafael Devers and his breakout bat have been to the Sox this season.
So David Ortiz was talking the other day about the Red Sox — about Rafael Devers in particular. Given all the chaos surrounding the Ortiz shooting, this qualifies as some good news. Here’s my column @TheAthleticBOS. https://t.co/6kgN0D1cdO

“He went on about Devers for about 15 minutes,” Kennedy told The Athletic's Steve Buckley. “He’s very excited about how he’s played this year.”
Of course, it generally wouldn't be shocking to hear Ortiz gush about someone who came up through the Sox system while he was an elder statesman, and is expected to lead the franchise in a similar fashion for the next decade. These circumstances are a bit different, though. Ortiz's world was turned upside down by last month's tragic shooting, and even though he was forced to undergo a third surgery this week, it's clear his mind is still on the game.
This is how Rafael Devers ranks among AL 3rd basemen:
