DB Logan Ryan is a Perfect Free Agent Fit for the Cowboys if His Price Keeps Dropping

Bolstering the ranks on defense is the top priority for the Dallas Cowboys after their one-time Pro Bowler, Byron Jones, departed for the Miami Dolphins.

Luckily for them, Logan Ryan is still out there, and he's the best cornerback available on the market. The only thing standing between Ryan and an NFL contract? His unwillingness to take a pay-cut. But as time wears on, the chances increase that he'll relent. When that day comes, Dallas needs to get busy and get a deal done.

As it stands, the incumbent Titans are not looking to re-sign the cornerback they previosuly awarded with a three-year, $30 million contract. Ryan is understood to desire that same stack of money or perhaps even more, but the market is always a wild card.

It's unsurprising that he would want a raise, of course. He displayed versatility last season with 4.5 sacks and four interceptions to go along with 113 combined tackles. For good measure, he intercepted a Tom Brady pass in the postseason and scored the pick-six that clinched the upset of his former team, the New England Patriots, in the AFC Wild Card.

It turned out to be Brady's final pass in New England. How's that for a highlight reel moment?

If the Dallas Cowboys don't want to lose a step as the go into next season, they should consider waiting it out and circling back to negotiate with Ryan as his price steadily drops. If they can get him closer to $10 million dollars or a bit belwo, perhaps a shorter-term deal, they'll have themselves a proven playmaker with Super Bowl credentials for a smart price.
