Cowboys Fans Shouldn't Let Ezekiel Elliott's Statement Fool Them

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott released an apology Tuesday afternoon for his well-documented incident in Las Vegas involving a security guard in May.

Elliott met with Commissioner Roger Goodell to apologize and discuss everything in more detail.

It's easy for Elliott to apologize after he's caught, and this seems to be a consistent theme with the Cowboys' running back. Elliott was previously suspended as a result of a domestic abuse case a few seasons ago, though he was never arrested or charged and the case was dropped.

Cowboys fans should take this apology with a grain of salt, as Elliott has yet to learn that his actions have consequences. Why would that mindset suddenly change now? If his suspension didn't put things into perspective, what will?

While it's likely that Elliott won't be suspended for this altercation, this is another sign in a pattern of behavior for the Cowboys' star. He's consistently getting into trouble off the field, and a simple Twitter apology doesn't guarantee he won't again.

Hopefully Elliott will get himself together and learn from the mistakes he's made, but Cowboys fans have no reason to trust that will be the case until he starts proving it.
