The Cowboys Franchise-Tagging Dak Prescott Could Destroy Mike McCarthy Era Before it Begins

The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be turning over a new leaf with Jason Garrett now fired and Mike McCarthy at the helm. So everything is rosy in Dallas, right?

Well, the higher-ups are refusing to pay Dak Prescott after he threw for 4,900 yards last season, and they seem destined to franchise tag him for the 2020 season.

Agreeing on a deal with Prescott would have given him and McCarthy the impression that Jerry Jones has full confidence in the pairing to lead this team for the next decade. Instead, we have to spend months analyzing Dak's true value down to the very last cent.

This is a pretty basic PR faux pas, as the Cowboys appear fractured and disorganized as opposed to team that has their owner, coach and quarterback in lockstep.

The Cowboys needed to give McCarthy a totally clean slate as they try to turn the page on the Garrett era. Instead, they're giving a nice hot PR situation that he's going to have to navigate. Just pay Dak and have him sing Kumbaya with McCarthy, not drag this contract debate out for as long as possible.
