Jacoby Brissett Has Every Right to Be Pissed at Colts Over Philip Rivers Signing

The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a two-year, $30 million extension before the start of the 2019 season. The results weren't terrible, but they also weren't great. He went 7-8 in the starting role with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Brissett has a $21.3 million cap hit in 2020 and at this point is virtually untradeable after Philip Rivers signed a one-year, $25 million deal with the team. What kind of plan does the front office have in mind sinking over $46 million into two quarterbacks for next season? As you can guess, Brissett is not happy.

And he has every right to be furious because this makes no sense, and now it locks him into a backup role for 2020 considering no team is going to take his outrageous price tag with the way the Colts structured his contract.

He won't be able to build his value for free agency in 2021. The Colts are pretty much just going to pay Brissett to stand there and be unhappy while he watches an older, clearly declining quarterback take his job after he played behind arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL two seasons ago and then was without his top target in TY Hilton for six games last year.

Let's also not forget Adam Vinatieri pretty much cost Indy a playoff spot last year due to his inexplicable kicking woes. If they make the playoffs last year with Brissett, we might not even be talking about a QB change in Indy.

Now the Colts are on the hook for a lot of money and their backup QB isn't happy with the situation. Yup, this sounds like Jim Irsay is running the show.
