The Colts Choosing Philip Rivers Over Tom Brady is Going to Be the Reason They're Trash in 2020

Imagine turning down the chance to sign Tom Brady. Seriously, just think about that.

After the former New England Patriot decided to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports began to leak about how interested teams lost out on the six-time Super Bowl champion. The Las Vegas Raiders, who were one of the favorites to land Brady, opted against signing him due to his high asking price as well as his lackluster game film from the past two seasons.

That's not as bad as the reasoning why the Indianapolis Colts decided to not pursue Brady. According to NBC Sports' Peter King, Brady had interest in joining the Colts, but the organization didn't pursue him because ... they preferred to sign Philip Rivers on a shorter deal. Huh?

Before we begin eviscerating the Colts for this decision, King elaborates on the full details of the move. The Colts weren't convinced that Brady's interest was legitimate, and felt this was another ploy by the Patriots to screw them out of another asset, just like Josh McDaniels back in 2018. In conclusion, the Colts didn't want to lose out on the chance to sign Rivers.

Okay, now back to the roasting. How do the Colts watch Rivers' play with the Los Angeles Chargers last season and loudly exclaim that he's the guy they want starting under center in 2020? Enlighten us, please!

Rivers is coming off his worst statistical season in recent memory. Yes, he threw for 4,615 yards and 23 touchdowns...but he never capitalized on grand opportunities because he threw 20 INTERCEPTIONS! If you watched a Chargers game in 2019, you can tell Rivers doesn't have it anymore. His deep passes have transitioned from lasers to lame ducks. His throws were so bad, that defensive backs treated them like punts!

Yes, the Colts have one of the best offensive lines in football, so Rivers will get the protection he so desperately needs at 38 years old. And yes, he has the same coaching staff in Indianapolis like he did during his better campaigns with the Chargers. But it won't matter for Indianapolis, because the former 2004 first-round draft pick's arm has depleted to a wet noodle.

You best believe that this decision will come back to haunt the Colts, especially when seeing Brady light it up with the Bucs.
