We Can't Trust Chris Simms as a Reporter After His Phony Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott 'Scoops'

For the second time in as many scoops, NBC analyst and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms has been outed as almost completely fraudulent.

Fresh off claiming that Russell Wilson was almost dealt to the Cleveland Browns way back when, Simms asserted that Dak Prescott turned down a record-setting $175 million contract offer from the Dallas Cowboys. The latter assertion has already been shot down as incorrect by rock solid insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter.

One of two things happened here. Either Simms just made stuff up -- we don't consider this likely -- or his "sources" fed him bad info that he didn't corroborate further. Both scenarios are concerning.

If Schefter or Rapoport tweets something, it's natural to assume you're getting the truth. From now on, if Simms is the primary source on an alarming story without a secondary outlet supporting his suspicions, it's safe to disregard it.

Dak's contract talks have been going on for a while now, and everyone wants something definitive on the table. Firing off irresponsibly wrong information has a ripple effect. No matter who you are, you've got to know better.

Whatever Simms' merits are as an analyst for NBC, he needs to knock these outrageous "scoops" off, lest he fall into the dreaded Skip Bayless/Colin Cowherd tier no one truly wants to reside in.
