Chiefs Bolster Defensive Line After Signing Former Cowboys First-Round Pick

Well, it didn't take long for defensive end Taco Charlton to land on his feet in free agency.

Per reports, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed the 25-year-old defenseman, who was released by the Miami Dolphins earlier this week, to a one-year contract.

This is a nice, low-risk signing for Kansas City that could benefit them in the long run. The team needed more depth up front and Charlton, who logged five sacks and two forced fumbles in 10 games for Miami last season, will provide just that. The former No. 28 overall pick of the Dallas Cowboys hasn't exactly got going in the NFL, but his potential is undeniable.

Perhaps Andy Reid and Co. will be the coaching staff to finally get consistency out of the Michigan product. Playing on a defensive line that features studs like Chris Jones and Frank Clark could be what Charlton needs to blow up.

If the 6-6, 270-pound pass rusher can build off the momentum he mustered last season in Miami, he could prove to be a quality signing for the Chiefs. That's a big "if," but that's precisely what makes this a low-risk, (potentially) high-reward move for KC.
