Chiefs Absolutely Need to Find a Way to Fit Logan Ryan Onto Their Jammed Payroll

At this stage of the offseason, NFL teams will be hard-pressed to find supreme talent on the free agent market as most of the top-tier players have already been scooped up. However, former Titans cornerback Logan Ryan remains unsigned, and he took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm that he will not be returning to Tennessee.

In terms of fits for the 29-year-old, the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the first teams that come to mind.

As of this writing, the Chiefs only have $1.56 million in cap space, which ranks 31st in the league. However, they need to find a starting caliber CB in the worst way following the disturbing arrest of 2019 starter Bashaud Breeland, who has a really good chance of being cut.

From a statistical perspective, Ryan is fresh off his best season as a pro. The seven-year veteran registered 113 tackles, 18 pass deflections, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, 4.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits. Those are ridiculous numbers for a cornerback.

With contract extensions for stars Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones likely coming soon, the Chiefs fitting Ryan on their limited payroll won't be easy. However, they should stop at nothing to do so.

Restructure some contracts or part ways with expendable players. Backload a multi-year deal. Do whatever is necessary. The two-time Super Bowl champ would be worth any headache that Kansas City will have to go through to sign him.
