Chase Young Staying Another Year at Ohio State Would Be a Big Mistake

Ohio State defensive end Chase Young received the Chuck Bednarik Award Thursday night for being the best defensive player in college football this season. He is a freakishly talented edge rusher whose 16.5 sacks lead the nation in 2019.

Young is projected to be the No. 1 or No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft if he declares. However, that currently is not his plan.

Although he has until Jan. 20 to officially make up his mind, the 2019 Heisman Trophy finalist has stated that he intends to return to Ohio State for his senior season.

While we respect Young's decision, whatever it may be, this would be a curious choice. His NFL draft stock will never be higher than it is right now. It is almost a guarantee that he would be costing himself some serious cash by playing another year of college ball. Plus, there's nothing stopping Young from finishing his degree at a later date, if that's the hold-up.

Young has nothing to gain by returning to school for another year. He was undeniably the best defender in the sport as a junior. Risking a poor senior season or injury could cause him to fall down draft boards, and nobody wants to see that happen to a gifted young man like him.
