The Boston Celtics look to be in a state of chaos as news of Kyrie Irving and Al Horford likely leaving the team has surfaced over the past few days. After the Los Angeles Lakers traded for superstar Anthony Davis, the Celtics saw a new potential franchise player slip from their grasp-- and in so many ways, they have only themselves to blame.

Before the trade deadline of the 2018-19 NBA season, the Celtics were interested in working a deal for Davis, and were in possession of the single best piece to help get it done in Jayson Tatum. Instead, general manager Danny Ainge held onto his assets and seemed to content to wait until summer. Now, with the team looking like it's imploding, it's clear that Ainge and the Celtics missed a huge oppurtunity by not pursuing Davis far harder before things got out of hand.

The Celtics are now awaiting the departure of their biggest star and their stoic All-Star big man. With Davis off the board as well, it's unclear what the next move for Boston will be. With Thursday night's draft, the Celtics No. 14 overall pick is more important than any fan could've expected.

Obviously, the Celtics seemed to be getting on well enough without Davis these past two years, earning their fourth and fifth consecutive postseason appearance. However, with the news of the team's lineup starting to crumble, bringing in Davis for the long haul before this year's trade deadline could have saved a lot of pain.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics are still loaded with assets, but will be without a superstar. As the Kyrie saga unfolds, the Celtics missing out on Davis is becoming more and more of a blown oppurtunity.
