Kris Bryant wanted the Cardinals fans to boo as his Chicago Cubs arrived in St. Louis for what was expected to be an intense three-game series between two longtime rivals.

He sure got what he wanted in that first game Friday night, but what would transpire by the final game of the series Sunday afternoon was perhaps a lesson in being careful what you wish for.

The Cardinals were coming off a series loss in Philadelphia and were looking for a feel-good moment against the Cubs.

Chicago only added fuel to the fire by trolling the Cardinals with Bryant's 'boring' comments during the first game. Here is the infamous Cubs tweet that went viral over the weekend.

If anyone was boring over the weekend, it was the team that did the trolling, scoring just one run in the first and last games of the series, with a brief four-run interlude that still resulted in a loss in the middle game.

Although this specific rivalry may be heated, maybe the Cubs should be careful who they're messing with over social media in future series. Cards rotation staple Adam Wainright tossed eight innings in a masterful performance on Sunday to complete their utter domination of the Northsiders at home. With the sweep, St. Louis moves to just 1.5 games behind Chicago and within three games of the division-leading Milwaukee.

Meanwhile, the Cubs have been sent a clear message--don't mess with St. Louis.
