Baker Mayfield has eaten his words in regards to a particular New York Giants rookie this preseason. He slammed sixth overall pick Daniel Jones in an interview with GQ recently, stirring up quite the controversy.

But the rookie gunslinger has done nothing but impress in the Giants' preseason games, and instead of running from what he said, the Browns quarterback apologized to Jones.

It was rising star Saquon Barkley who facilitated the apology. Mayfield texted Barkley asking for Jones' number so he could send him an apology, and he apparently "sounded sincere." The running back also added that Jones received and accepted the apology.

Mayfield has maintained that his comments on Jones were taken well out of context, but it's still reassuring to know that he reached out to him to offer up an apology anyway. Rather than let media stir up more beef between the two, Mayfield made sure to swiftly put an end to the drama.

To Jones' credit, he dealt with the criticism well. He's been a pro at tuning out the hate, partially because he's had to deal with more than his fair share of it ever since the Giants made the controversial choice to take him sixth overall.

Regardless of whether or not Mayfield stepped out of line when he made his comments on Jones, it was a classy move for him to apologize. Likewise, Jones deserves plenty of credit for turning the other cheek and giving his fellow quarterback a chance to own up to what he said.

The two are both just young guns trying to make their way in the NFL, and it's heartwarming to know that they've found common ground.
