Bill O'Brien's Latest Comments on DeAndre Hopkins Trade Prove He Can't Choose Talent Over Pettiness
By Mark Powell

Bill O'Brien is among the worst in sports, and very clearly a man who should not currently have the job responsibilities he's been tasked with fulfilling.
But, for now, Texans fans must endure.
When asked about the DeAndre Hopkins trade, which still isn't official due to COVID-19's impact on medicals, O'Brien was frank with the media. His explanation, however, still won't help matters.
Bill O'Brien: 'It was in the best interest of our team. DeAndre Hopkins was a great football player. We loved DeAndre Hopkins He had three years left on his deal and he wanted a raise. David Johnson is going to be a great addition to our football team.'

First, we don't believe you. Second, money should not be an obstacle for one of the best receivers in the NFL. It's not just a "raise"; it's taking care of elite talent.
Hopkins is still in his prime and will thrive in Arizona, but by dealing the former Clemson star, O'Brien risked severing the personal relationships he has with several of the Texans offensive stars, including Laremy Tunsil and Deshaun Watson. Yes, Hopkins wanted a new deal, but he was not on the verge of holding out for an entire season, of which we still don't know the status.

O'Brien's personal pride got in the way of good business. That's why he was able to deal his most talented skill player for pennies on the dollar, and could care less about the consequences. Hell, this is a man who once allegedly compared Hopkins to Aaron Hernandez. He should be thankful the 27-year-old didn't walk out of the facility on sight.
Instead, O'Brien merely waited for the wrong moment and severed ties entirely, weakening his own team for some form of sick personal gain.
Will he do it again when Deshaun Watson comes calling? Houston fans better hope he doesn't have the chance.
