The biggest question mark facing the Chicago Bears this season was always going to come on special teams. Without a stable option at kicker, the pressure has been on for Chicago to lock down a new boot at the position.

They've brought in a plethora of options this offseason, and the race narrowed itself down to two candidates in the preseason: Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro.

And now it seems that the Bears have decided on their kicker of the present, as Fry was shown the exit door on Sunday, getting waived by the organization.

Fry missed his lone field goal attempt on Friday against the Giants, though he did convert an extra-point opportunity. In Week 1 of preseason play, Fry knocked down a 43-yard attempt and converted a PAT as well.

While Fry wasn't terrible, Pineiro proved to be better. He went 1-for-2 in Week 1, drilling a 23-yarder, and then 2-for-2 in Week 2, including a long of 41 yards.

As Adam Schefter points out, it's still entirely possible that Pineiro doesn't enter the season as the Bears' starting kicker. There are other options the team can explore on the open market, so he better hope that he continues to knock down kicks over his next two preseason showings.

After Cody Parkey's disastrous "Double Doink" put an early end to the Bears' Super Bowl aspirations last season, they're doing their due diligence in order to avoid facing a similar fate this year.
