You can be a fan favorite and a great story, but at the end of the day you need to produce to stay alive in the big leagues.

Unfortunately for Houston Astros first baseman Tyler White, he has struggled for most of the 2019 campaign, and as a result he has been designated for assignment.

Right-handed pitcher Jose Uriquidy will take White's spot on the 25-man roster, and he's expected to start Saturday against the Texas Rangers.

White, a former 33rd-round pick back in 2013, has had his moments of being a force in the Astros lineup, but in 71 games (218 at-bats) this season he's slashing .225/.320/.330 with 3 home runs, 21 RBI and 74 strikeouts.

The 28-year-old saw regular time this season at first base and designated hitter, but with a bunch of their injured players (Carlos Correa and Aledmys Diaz) set to return very soon, there wasn't a place on this roster for White moving forward.

If White gets picked up and moves on to greener pastures, it would be the second highly-touted first baseman/designated hitter to be claimed off waivers this month from Houston, as former top prospect AJ Reed was claimed by the Chicago White Sox.
