Confidence clearly hits different in the sport of boxing, and more often than not, it's justified. However, the recent utterances of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua were simply out of line.

The 30-year-old star fired off some brazen shots at Deontay Wilder in a recent interview. Considering how far off these two warriors are from fighting, Joshua's call out is uncalled for and cowardly.

We don't doubt that Wilder can weather this sort of language. In fact, he probably doesn't even care for it that much. It's just strange that Joshua, the current holder of the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight crowns, went out of his way to lambaste the former champ.

Joshua is surely riding high after reclaiming his titles, but let's not forget that this is the same boxer who was humiliated by an out-of-shape Andy Ruiz Jr. last June. The Watford native did get his revenge, but that loss is still far too recent for him to be talking this sort of nonsense.

At least Twitter recognized the absurdity of Joshua's comments.

We were thinking the same thing!

In all seriousness, there has been plenty of chatter over the years about a potential Wilder-Joshua bout, but it has yet to come close to happening. Add in the fact that Wilder triggered his rematch clause against Tyson Fury, and the matchup, as thrilling as it would be, becomes even less likely.

That's exactly what makes Joshua attempt to blast Wilder so lily-livered.
