The San Francisco Giants just created depth in their infield, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim saved some money in the process.

The Giants have acquired Zack Cozart and shortstop prospect Will Wilson from the Angels.

In return, the Angels get cash and a player to be named later. However, this could lead to an even more significant deal for the Angels.

The Halos get rid of the nearly $13 million sum they owe Cozart for the 2020 season, but they also give up a promising prospect in Wilson, their first-round pick in 2019. This could mean the Angels are going all-in on either Gerrit Cole or Anthony Rendon, as they've reportedly spoken to agent Scott Boras about both star players' availability.

Cole's price tag is reportedly $35 million a year, maybe more, and the Angels have just stretched the space between their dollars committed and their budget from $25 million to about $38 million. Some reports expect Rendon to make somewhere between $25 million and $35 million per season.

The Giants get some depth, but the Angels could be making room for a big-name free agent.
