With the MLB's Winter Meetings officially underway in San Diego, it seems like a bombshell free agent announcement is imminent.

The most anticipated of these disclosures, of course, is where world-beating ace Gerrit Cole will land. Throughout the saga, three teams -- the Yankees, Angels, and Dodgers -- emerged as the reported favorites to land his services.

Well, SNY's Andy Martino understands that two of those clubs -- the Yanks and Angels -- are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, with the Dodgers a step or two behind the eight ball.

Perhaps this latest update as something to do with the likelihood of the Dodgers remaining firm in their set budget for Cole, who is almost guaranteed to pursue a record-breaking contract.

Barring an unprecedented turn of events, Cole, based on the latest buzz, will choose to play for the club that selected him with the No. 28 overall pick of the 2008 Amateur Draft, or will elect to return to his native California and play in LA.

Get excited, Yankees and Angels (and potentially Dodgers) fans. As things stand, you are, and by a great deal at that, the top landing spots for the best pitcher in the game.
