Alex Smith hasn't played a down of football since November of 2018 after he suffered an extremely gruesome leg break against the Houston Texans. His recovery from the injury has been a long process, and while initial reports claimed that Smith had undergone as many as six separate surgeries to repair the leg, the 35-year-old signal caller recently revealed that number wasn't even remotely close to accurate.

Smith recently told a group of medical professionals that he actually underwent 17 surgeries on his leg.

Following one of Smith's operations, tissue in his leg became infected, which resulted in the quarterback requiring more surgeries.

Smith revealed his absurd amount of surgeries at an Inova Sports Medicine event in early October in Fairfax, Va. He underwent nearly three times the amount of operations as was initially reported.

Smith has been working towards a return to football, and is adamant about trying to extend his career even after the life-altering injury at age 35.

While his career remains in jeopardy, and rightfully so considering the extraordinary amount of surgeries he endured, Smith has been seen at Redskins training camp and practice, and was recently spotted throwing a football, a positive sign in his lengthy recovery.
