Alabama's annual NFL Draft prospects normally announce their intentions to go pro with more pomp and circumstance than Crimson Tide offensive lineman Matt Womack and defensive back Shyheim Carter did. The pair had to make the trip to the East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida this week, and they have both been among the more impressive players on their respective sides of the ball for the East team.

Womack, who started at right tackle during Alabama's national championship campaign three seasons ago but lost his spot due to injuries and the play of Jedrick Wills, was a monster in one-on-ones. The power was obvious, but the nastiness with which he plays and the speed at which he powered through his blocks stood out.

Womack has already met with a scout from the Carolina Panthers down in St. Pete.

Carter, who played the "star" defensive back position in Nick Saban's defense in Tuscaloosa, saw time at both safety and cornerback, and impressed in both. The versatility was already a plus, but his lightning-quick footwork, soft hands, and aggressiveness with which he flew around the field raised a few eyebrows among the scouts in attendance.

Carter conversed with a member of the Washington Redskins for a long time after Tuesday's practice.

Womack and Carter both produced down in Tuscaloosa, and the pair should be on their way to the NFL in some capacity after this week of practice.
