5 Teams the NCAA Absolutely Shafted With Weak Bowl Selections | TOMMY'S TAKES

Bowl season is upon us after an action-packed championship weekend, and while we're ready for nonstop football from Dec. 20 until Jan. 13, we can't help but notice the NCAA screwed up with a few of their selections on Sunday.

After looking at the postseason schedule, there are a number of teams that definitely deserved a better bowl or opponent, and here are five schools the NCAA left hanging in a big way.

5. Florida

This is mostly because the ACC is a big joke outside of Clemson, but No. 6 Florida (10-2) getting No. 24 Virginia (9-4) in a draw for the Capital One Orange Bowl just isn't right. The actual bowl status is a good one, but their opponent isn't as high-profile as it should be. The Cavaliers just got manhandled by Clemson in the ACC title game and suffered losses to unranked Louisville and Miami in addition to getting their doors blown off against Notre Dame. Florida's only two losses came at LSU and on a neutral field vs Georgia in which both were contested down to the final minutes.

4. SMU

SMU, another AAC team, finished the year 10-2, but faltered down the stretch with narrow losses to ranked opponents in Navy and Memphis -- both of which were one-score games. They proved to have one of the most entertaining offenses in the country this year, but the NCAA decided to place them in the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl against the Lane Kiffin-less FAU Owls. FAU did win their conference title game, but they beat nobody and lost their three hardest games of the season to Ohio State, UCF and Marshall by a combined 63 points. It's hard to argue FAU had any quality opponents beyond that.

3. Boise State

This is business as usual for the Broncos. Although this is one of the most captivating bowl games because former Boise coach Chris Petersen and the Washington Huskies will take on the Broncos in the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl in his final game, it's not exactly what the Mountain West Conference winners deserved. Boise finished the year 12-1, with their lone loss coming by three points at BYU after they lost their starting QB. While the No. 18 Broncos didn't exactly have a good resume, they notched 12 wins and won their conference, which deserves a bit more than playing a 7-5 Huskies team that quite frankly looked bad most of the year.

2. Appalachian State

No. 20 Appalachian State is in the same boat as Boise. They finished ranked after going 12-1 and winning their conference, but will get the R+L Carries New Orleans Bowl against a stinky 9-4 UAB team that just got trounced by FAU in their conference final. App State had quality wins, with two road triumphs against North Carolina and South Carolina. If not for a fluky loss at home to Georgia Southern -- a game where the Mountaineers were 18-point favorites -- their outlook would've been a whole lot different. Still, the NCAA got this one dead wrong.

1. Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bearcats went 10-3 on the year with all three of those losses coming to ranked opponents -- No. 2 Ohio State and No. 17 Memphis twice. They fell to the Tigers on a last-second touchdown in the AAC Championship and the NCAA rewarded them with the ... Ticketsmarter Birmingham Bowl against 6-6 Boston College. You can taste the disrespect and Bearcats fans should be infuriated.
