3 Position Battles We're Looking Forward to the Most at Eagles Training Camp

The Eagles come into this season with one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. But just because they have depth, does not mean they don't have position battles to hash out as the season approaches. Below are our top three training camp battles for the Eagles this season.

3. Defensive End

Philadelphia lost key contributors along the defensive line with the trade of Michael Bennett and Chris Long's retirement. The Eagles now need to replace 15.5 sacks worth of talent along the defensive line, especially because defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz loves to rotate edge rushers. The team re-signed Vinny Curry, who has impressed in camp to this point. They are counting on one of Josh Sweat, Daeshon Hall, Shareef Miller and Joe Ostman to step up and grab the fourth defensive end spot.

2. Running Back

If this were a list for fantasy football, this would be the top camp battle. But this is real football, and the running back rotation should be effective for the Eagles this year. The only question is who will lead the rotation, Miles Sanders or Jordan Howard? The Birds spent a second-round pick on Sanders this year, while they traded a sixth for Howard. Obviously, Howard is the more experienced of the two, but Sanders has impressed in camp and is looking like the most explosive back on the roster.

The Eagles came into camp with six corners who could make the case to start for the team this season. Now, the pickings are slim with injuries setting in, keeping Jalen Mills and Cre'Von LeBlanc sidelined for the foreseeable future. Philadelphia has used Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones and Avonte Maddox throughout camp as Mills, LeBlanc and Ronald Darby recover, and it looks like that could be the starting unit Week 1. If that group continues to play well, there's a chance last year's starters in Darby and Mills could be forced to watch from the sideline when healthy.
