3 MLB Teams That Are Kidding Themselves by Not Signing Yasiel Puig

As Spring Training is in full swing, most of the big-name free agents have signed with ball clubs and have begun practicing with their teammates. One notable player still left out on the open market is Yasiel Puig who spent time with both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians last season. While Puig may only be able to secure a one-year deal to prove his worth to an organization, these three teams really should be actively pursuing the 29-year-old veteran.

3. Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are in what seems to be the early stages of a rebuild. Mitch Haniger served time as Seattle's right fielder, until he was sidelined by a plethora of injuries throughout the 2019 season. Yasiel Puig could be a great addition to take Haniger's spot until he gets right. If Puig can impress in Seattle, the Ms could use him as trade bait ahead of the deadline in order to accelerate the rebuild.

2. Boston Red Sox

After the Boston Red Sox traded away Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Alex Verdugo, it was reported that the 23 year old was dealing with a back injury. If he's forced to miss time, or this turns out to be a recurring issue, Puig would be an excellent alternate to sub in, especially considering the team didn't bring back Brock Holt. Puig has solid range and a strong arm in the field, which is crucial for manning the unorthodox dimensions of right field at Fenway Park. He may not be an everyday starter in Boston, but he'd be a useful bench asset.

1. Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies have two stud out fielders in David Dahl and Charlie Blackmon manning center field and right field respectively. Their situation for left however is concerning. Right now the competition is between an aging Ian Desmond and the light bats of Sam Hilliard and Raimel Tapia. Yasiel Puig would easily earn the starting job and the Rockies would be able to fortify an impressive lineup in Colorado to compliment Nolan Arenado and company.
