Never one to conform to any set of norms, Cincinnati Reds' Trevor Bauer has another interesting idea. The 29-year-old faces free agency when this season closes, and at that time, Bauer wants to implement a strategy of his own.

He wants to pitch every four days.

Bauer told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale that he actually believes he'll be a better pitcher with less downtime. With a different schedule, he seems confident that he could contribute to some serious wins for whichever team rolls the dice on him next.

Bauer also claimed that in his free agency search, he wants to find an organization that's "progressive with technology," which could probably help prove his point that pitching on shorter rest would be beneficial for himself as well as the team.

He believes that if he pitches more often, it will allow his teammates in the starting rotation more recovery time. He feels that he's more effective on shorter rest -- something that isn't the case for most.

Bauer said it "only seems crazy" because nobody does it in today's MLB. But remember the days of Cy Young, who pitched complete games every day? While we wouldn't exactly be going back to that, Bauer could begin a trend of pitcher's performing on shorter rest and dispel the strict five days' rest we've all become so accustomed to.
