3 Bold Predictions for Michigan State vs Tulsa Season Opener

The Michigan State Spartans are never the most flashy or dynamic team in the country, but Mark Dantonio's group keeps finding ways to string together wins. As Michigan State looks to get win No. 1 on the season, they will welcome Philip Montgomery and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Things could get interesting really fast when these two groups get in between the lines.

3. Brian Lewerke Throws Three Touchdowns

Lewerke, who went into last season with legit NFL hype, had a nightmare year in which he threw more interceptions than touchdowns and was benched for Rocky Lombardi. Even taking that into account, he does have a strong arm downfield and should have no trouble taking apart this subpar Tulsa defense with or without receiver Felton Davis. Of course, SHOULD is the key word here.

2. Tulsa's Backs Run for Over 150 Yards

For a 3-9 team who struggled to win games in the C-USA, the Golden Hurricane have a pretty strong group of backs. 195 pound speedster Shamari Brooks, who ran for 967 yards and seven touchdowns last year, is the lightning to the thunder known as 225 pounder Corey Taylor II, who had 846 yards and 11 touchdowns. These two are quite the dynamic duo, and they could give Kenny Willekes and Joe Bachie fits.

1. Michigan State Cruises to a Win By at Least Four Touchdowns

At the end of the day, the gulf in talent between these two teams is noticeable. Whenever an upset like this takes place, it's often times because of excellent quarterback play or a terrific defense. Tulsa has neither, as Montgomery hasn't decided if Zach Smith or Seth Boomer will start. Sparty should have no trouble picking up their first win of the 2019 season at home.
