3 Reasons Jalen Hurts Has More NFL Potential Than Jake Fromm

Two of the more intriguing mid-round quarterback prospects in the 2020 NFL draft are former Georgia gunslinger Jake Fromm and ex-Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, although the pair have almost completely different skill-sets. Fromm wants to drop back and get the ball out quickly, while Hurts is much better suited to making big plays with his arm and legs. While Fromm might be the "safer" pick of the two, Hurts' ceiling is considerably higher for these three reasons.

3. His Arm Strength

No one is going to confuse Hurts for Patrick Mahomes, but his arm strength downfield is not a detriment to his game, while there are still questions about if Fromm can make all the throws the NFL will ask him to make. In Lincoln Riley's offense, which features plenty of downfield shots and routes that take a long time to develop, Hurts showed off impressive downfield accuracy and the ability to fit the ball into very tight windows.

2. His Mobility

Hurts' meal ticket in the NFL will always be his legs, as he pairs running back speed and elusiveness with the frame of a quarterback. While Riley and Nick Saban loved to deploy Hurts as a runner, some of his best plays came on scrambles when he made something out of nothing after a breakdown. Fromm is many things as a quarterback, but a premium athlete is certainly not one of them.

1. His Poise in Big Moments

Hurts might have struggled against LSU, but so did literally everyone else who played that buzzsaw of a team. Be it the Big 12 championship, the regular season comeback against Baylor, or the Red River Rivalry showdown against Texas, Hurts has shown that when the chips are down, he can lead your team to victory. When paired with his ability to make just enough plays to guide Alabama to win after win, teams can feel comfortable with Hurts behind center when the game is on the line.
