Zion Williamson Signing With CAA is a Major Loss for Rich Paul and Klutch Sports

Zion Williamson has his first home in what should be a lengthy NBA career, signing with CAA Sports and spurning Klutch Sports in the process.

It is a blow to the agency that has LeBron James under its belt, and was hoping to get the potential heir apparent to LBJ's NBA stardom.

Klutch agent Rich Paul, who is also the agent of James, was obviously hoping that Williamson would choose to sign with him in the current era of NBA free agency and superteams. New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis is a client of Paul's as well, and with Zion all-but-certainly on his way to New Orleans, the Klutch Sports agent would have loved nothing more than to have AD, LeBron and Zion all under his belt in the event of a trade.

Maybe this is the best outcome for the expected No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft. Paul has been involved in much of the chaos surrounding the Lakers and their disfunction, including in the attempted trade for Davis.

The Lakers disastrous season has been blamed on many parties, including Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka, LeBron and Luke Walton, when in fact Paul may have been one of the biggest culprits. If Zion was paying attention to the circus of LA's 2018-19 season, then perhaps he made a well-informed decision to steer clear of Klutch.

Williamson's CAA Sports was the first agency that LeBron had during his NBA career, until leaving for Paul and the brand new Klutch Sports in 2012.
